01 / PREPARATION
Business sale preparation checklist.
Give a large, open-ended project a useful starting point. Adjust the checklist to your business, record the gaps, and build an owner-maintained preparation record.

Prepare the facts before the conversation.
Begin with what you can support: a clear description of the business, its monthly records, the work required to run it and the assets you control. Separate a task being completed from a claim being verified. A short checklist with useful source notes is easier to review than a long list of unchecked assumptions.
HOW TO USE THIS TOOL
- Choose a business in the tool below, or create one with New business.
- Edit the starter tasks and add items for your model. Use Not applicable where a task does not fit.
- Record source notes and mark your own progress. Export the checklist as CSV or include it in the printable record.
Ask a qualified adviser about the scope of tax, legal, employment, privacy or contract review that fits your circumstances. A completed preparation checklist does not establish compliance or completion of due diligence.
